“Another One Bites The Dust”
*singing* ….And I am teeeellllllling you……that Jennifer Holliday gave in to some pretty heated pressure!”
Dreamgirls Tony and Grammy Award winner Jennifer Holliday learned the hard way how many strings fans can pull on when she agreed to perform at President-elect Donald Trump’s Inauguration concert set for January 19th.
According to Holliday, after she announced her appearance, she received some extremely harsh backlash from the LGBT community, along with non-credible death threats.
The center of their backlash stemmed from when Vice President-elect Mike Pence signed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act; which targeted the rights of the LGBT.
She folded after the backlash and pinned an open letter saying, “In light of the information pointed out to me via the Daily Beast article on yesterday, my only choice must now be to stand with the LGBT Community and to state unequivocally that I WILL NOT PERFORM FOR THE WELCOME CONCERT OR FOR ANY OF THE INAUGURATION FESTIVITIES!”
Interestingly enough, when she originally received backlash from the African American community, Holliday’s mind was steadfast on singing. However, it wasn’t until she received scrutiny from the LGBT community that she decided against it.
