Jay-Z: War On Drugs, “Epic Fail!”
Jay-Z can arguably be crowned one of the most talented, business-oriented Hip-Hop Moguls of all time.
Yesterday, The New York Times released a short animated film regarding the history Ronald Reagan’s War on Drugs, narrated by Hov himself and illustrated by Molly Crabapple.
He not only breaks down the history, but he highlights one of the most daunting issues of the African American community – the mass incarceration of African American men when it comes to drugs. “The NYPD raided our Brooklyn neighborhoods while Manhattan bankers openly used coke with impunity,” Hov stresses. “Kids at dorms in Columbia, where rates of marijuana use are equal to or worse than those in the hood, are never targeted or ticketed.” He continues.
This powerful video makes one wonder about the American Government and its ambiguous drug laws.
He brilliantly concludes the video with, “Forty-five years later, it’s time to rethink our policies and laws. The war on drugs is an epic fail.”
