Empire’s Jussie Smollett’s New Song

Empire’s Jussie Smollett’s New Song

For you Empire fans out there who are anxiously awaiting for the upcoming season, you have exactly five days!

Additionally, Billboard  has recently premiered Jussie Smollett’s new socially conscious track, “Need Freedom”.

If the music style sounds familiar, it’s because it was produced by industry veteran and music producer, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins.

Jerkins and songwriter Ester Dean have been welcomed as the new songwriting team for Empire. (Timbaland is no longer the music producer for the show). The chorus includes a soul-stirring line, “Tell me who’s to blame for causin’ all this pain? The ones we call to help us turn they kill us every day.

“Need Freedom” addresses the issues of gun violence while mentioning those who were slain by the gun of police officers. “I recorded this exactly seven days after Philando Castile was shot,” he told Billboard.

One thing for sure is that the music industry is definitely taking a stand against police brutality.

Empire will be headed back to your TV screen on Sept. 21st at 9 p.m. EST on Fox.
