MAJOR WIN: ​Viola Davis Becomes First Black Woman to Win Emmy for Lead Actress

Last night the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards crowned Viola Davis for best lead actress in a drama series for her role as a defense lawyer in “How to Get Away with Murder.” with her win, she became the first African American actress to do so. The actress gave an emotional speech, quoting Harriet Tubman as well as delivering what is soon to be an iconic quote, “and let me tell you something, the only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity. You cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there.”
